1 Introduction
1.1 lbnSenderX functions
This software module provides tools for, preparing and sending graphics files (to lbnCDMakerX or save to disc). In this application user is able to select graphic files, make correction, cropping and other operations. In co-operation with Pakon Film Scanner you may scan negative films to convert their images to digital format and then use the same tools.
1.2 lbnSenderX Options
Corrections. Sharpness, saturation, contrast, gamma, density and colors.
Sender Profile. This function allows you to create and save color profiles. You can select correction(s) to apply and save them as a profile. You may give a name to your profile, modify and/or remove it
Edit group. This option allows you to display one image on full screen (to view the details) and apply the corrections to previously selected group of images. On screen you will see only one (active) image but all the changes (except for cropping) will be applied to all images in group.
Auto APS. Automatically recognizes APS type. It uses standard APS formats (CHP)

2 Work with lbnSenderX
2.1 Choosing images from file
| To choose images from digital source perform the following steps:
First, select the drive, where images are stored. Drive shortcuts are located in the upper part of the window. You can define names for these buttons by assigning friendly names to disks. Drive list is automatically refreshed. It is very convenient in case of adding / removing USB disks, flash memory keys etc. On the left area of the window there is a folders list. Select a folder, using arrows ”up” and ”down” to move, or ”left” and ”right” to open/close folders. Use the mouse if you prefer. |
| After you select directory, the files will be shown automatically, but you can view files as miniatures or a files list – use the following button:
Select a file [or files] from the folder: files are listed in the right part of the window. To view selected files – click [View] button on the right, bottom corner. |
| | If lbnSenderX doesn't display files and folders created with characters in your language, it might help when you change language for "Non‑Unicode" programs in Windows XP settings:
|
| You can also use the list of lastly used locations. Click right mouse button on Folder List area to display such a list. | Image:ESE177.jpg Figure 2:6:. |
| Select a group of files - mark them using CTRL key or using SHIFT key (like in Windows) or use both methods of selection simultaneously.
When the files you have chosen are highlighted, and you are sure that marked all required files, click [View] button. Network Neighborhood is also available (in folder list section) – similar to Windows operating system. |
3 Image processing
Many useful functions are available during work with images. There are tools for color correction, density, contrast, saturation, sharpness and cropping. These are available in thumbnails review window.
3.1 Window description
| Options, function buttons
On the right side of lbnSenderX window there is a tool bar with buttons for access to some functions (e.g. return to previous page, change colors, formats, add frames, etc.). Some buttons display additional tool bars for further selection. |
3.2 Thumbnails view and work modes
Main advantage of this window is the ability to quickly preview images as miniatures. In this window is possible to perform all operations for images: corrections, cropping, changing quantity, etc.
Three work modes are available:
| # Single image view – to switch into this mode press CTRL+1 or double click on an image.
|
| # Three images in row - to switch into this mode press CTRL+2.
|
| # Many images in row - to switch into this mode press CTRL+3
|
| | The values mentioned above are default values. You may change those settings using Configuration Panel. To display this panel use [Configuration] button. | |
| | Double click on an image switch into single image preview of this image. Next double click returns into previous thumbnails view. |
3.3 Working with group of images
All corrections (see warning note below) assigned in thumbnail view may be applied to a single miniature or group. The selection frame has silver color indicator. If you have not selected a group - all corrections are applied to this frame only. To select group of frames you have two options:
- Use SHIFT key and click on first and last frame in a group. All frames between will be included.
- Use CTRL key and click all frames to be included in a group. The second Click on the frame removes it from the group.
| | If you selected group of frames - all operations will apply to the group, but crop operations affects only the active single image. |
3.4 Setting quantity of images to send
To define quantity of images to expose - select the thumbnail(s), and set the mouse cursor on corrections area. Then, new editable menu will appear. In this editable menu user may set quantity of images. To increase quantity click left mouse button, to decrease quantity – click right mouse button. The quantity of images can be also changed using keyboard. Mark an image or group of images, and type the quantity (number of copies) form keyboard. Total number of prints to be exposed can be verified on right bottom corner of each image (miniature).
3.5 Corrections
To change the properties of an image select an image and put the mouse cursor over corrections area that is located in lower part of the image thumbnail.
| Corrections tool bar appears. The letter “N” over each tool bar item stands for NEUTRAL what indicates that no correction was applied. |
A user may:
- Change the values of: colors (yellow, magenta, cyan), density, gamma, contrast, saturation, sharpness. Each correction item may be changed in the following way:
- To increase the value click left mouse button
- To decrease the value – click right mouse button.
- The corrections values can be changed also using keyboard.
- The range of values is: -9 … 0 … +9.
- Activate functions:
- red eye removal,
- auto brightness (standard lbnSenderX or I2E algorithm according to program settings)
- Change levels using histogram. Use mouse to move three sliders (for black, midtone and white points) to adjust an image.
- Set image quantity.
3.6 Red eye removal
The red eye effect on photograph is the unwelcome result of light reflection from background of the eye. Red Eye Removal function may be used to remove red eyes from an image.
|
| # On selected image, put cursor in the middle of an eye, and use CTRL + Z key combination to enlarge the image. Please note that enlargement is active only when you press CTRL + Z keys.
|
# Use left mouse to draw a circle (or ellipse) to cover entire red area. Only this area will be modified. If you want to cancel your selection (to re-select red area) - use right mouse click to cancel.
|
| The result AFTER Red Eye Removal function has been used. |
The status of the Red Eye Removal function is shown on the correction panel:
| |
| OFF – Initially it is displayed as an eye (default eye is grey). In this mode red eye function is not visible on the monitor, and is not applied to an image. |
| ON – If the function has been used at least once – the eye becomes red and then user may change between different modes by clicking on the icon. All changes are applied and the final result is shown. |
TARGET – The target points of correction are displayed. In this mode user may undo/remove red eye correction using a click of mouse right button on the area that has to be removed.
3.7 Additional tools
During image preparation within lbnSenderX, additional options are available, such as:
|
| Clear zero
| Any image with number of copies equal zero is cleared from thumbnails view. This option is helpful in cases when user has many images with different values and you want to verify images sent and how many remain. |
| Change format
| By pressing this button you can change selected print format (after pressing this button, window with format list will appear). After the change, it is not necessary to repeat any operation (selecting, correction, etc.) – excluding cropping. |
| Add image
| This button allows to download additional image(s) from digital source (after pressing this button, window with graphic files will appear). |
4 Special Functions
4.1 Sender Profile
| Most of changed correction settings may be saved as Profile. Such Profile may be retrieved later and applied to other images avoiding wasting time for individual correction of each parameter.
In Profile you can save changes of the parameters displayed under thumbnail view: Yellow, Magenta, Cyan, Density, Gamma, Contrast, Saturation and Sharpness. |
Creating your own Profiles makes your preparation work flow more convenient and image processing is faster.
| | There are three predefined profiles that cannot be removed:
|
The steps to prepare Color Profile are as follows:
- Select an image.

| * Press [Sender Profile] button:
| * After pressing [Sender Profile] button, [Sender Profile] window appears with a list of predefined profiles and three function buttons used to Overwrite, Delete or Add a profile. Press [Add new profile] button.
|
| * In a new window write the profile name in the white field and confirm.
Profile is ready to use. |
| To apply the profile to the image, simply select the image, then enter into Sender Profile menu and select the desired profile from list double-clicking its name.
You may create more profiles and manage them using [Sender Profile] button again: | [[Image:]] |
| | Name corrections and save them as a profile. |
| | Changing existing profile:
|
| | To remove the profile, go to Sender Profile, select it from the list and remove it using [Delete] button. |
4.2 Reference Image Preview

| | The size of the Reference Image is corresponding with the size of thumbnails.
You may move the Reference Image Preview window to any position on a scre. The program remembers its position and always starts with the last one. |
4.3 Monitor Calibration Option
| Monitor Calibration Option allows to adjust monitor colors to the images printed by minilab.
Test Image delivered with lbnSenderX is shown on the right. Calibration is done manually based on visual comparison of the exposed Test Image with the same image displayed on a scre. For that purpose two different files are used (of the same image):
You may use your own image instead of presented here. Prepare two files of different resolution of the test image and place them in the following folder: c:\digitalContactPrinting\lbnSenderX\ |
| Press [Monitor Calibration] button on the Global Settings tab of Configuration panel of lbnSenderX to start calibration. |
Calibration wizard appears that will lead you through the calibration steps.
Calibration steps:
# Press [Expose Calibration Sheet] to make an exposure of Test Print.
|
| # Use sliders to make additional correction of density, contrast and gamma – pay attention to match lights and gradient (transitions between shades). Press [Next] button to continue or [Cancel] to exit calibration or [Back] to go to previous window.
|
| # There are six screens – each for one of the base colors: yellow, red, magenta, blue, cyan, gre. Adjust tint (shade) of each color to that of the test print. Match each base color of Test Print (shown also in the upper part of the window) and click on matching colored square. Press [Next] button to continue or [Cancel] to exit calibration or [Back] to go to previous window.
|
| # After adjusting six colors (yellow, red, magenta, blue, cyan, green) application calculates color values. Press [Next] button to continue or [Cancel] to exit calibration or [Back] to go to previous window.
|
| # Adjust saturation (of each color separately and general). When all adjustment is done press [Finish] button to save the profile. After that lbnSenderX will use generated profile to display images.
|
| | The Monitor Calibration profile is used only in lbnSenderX program. You have to be aware that an image opened in another application might differ coloristically from the one seen in lbnSenderX. |
